April 2023 -- we did 7.6% MTD.

The past couple of years of experience has really sharpened my focus and mentality towards managing risk. Non-negotiable.

The good news is in Arete, we have discovered, back tested and proved some advanced strategies which are robust to withstand difficult and erratic market conditions.

We incurred losses this month but they were all pre-calculated and accepted at the moment the trade was executed. This makes option trading significantly more enjoyable and sustainable.

Reflections

This month probably marks the two/three-month mark where the markets felt slower and flatter. Natural human behavior of wanting to over-trade or take riskier positions started to kick in.

As I was contemplating whether to "let go" a little and trade more "loosely", a sudden memory flashback hit me; the mentality of trading "loosely" is going to hurt me more than it is going to benefit me. Till date, the biggest loss I have ever taken in one single trade is $7,000 USD.

The pain of potentially losing big was far greater than the incremental joy of having more freedom to trade "loosely".

I am glad I took a decision to be disciplined enough to continue with a more stringent approach, which is also the reason why I still managed to get positive returns this month.
